Can I Afford a Pool Enclosure?

March 4, 2022 by Philip Kessler

Pool floats? Check. Towels, deck chairs, and sunscreen—yep. All that’s left is to grab the bucket of flyswatters and the box of citronella candles. But, where are they? You could save yourself the hunt if you put up a pool enclosure. When you consider all of the benefits that a pool enclosure affords your family, they’re really a lot more affordable than you think.

Mesh screen enclosures are the most economical for homeowners. They average between $4,200 and $14,000 for a 700-square-foot mesh screen enclosure. That breaks down to between $6 and $20 per square foot. We know that’s not much help for doing the math though. It’s because labor and materials range depending on the area of the country that you live in. It ranges here in Florida as well though. We found a residential construction calculator that can help you with your ballpark figure.

Or, you could just reach out. Shoot us your measurements over the phone or send us a message with your dimensions and we’ll be glad to give you a rough estimate.

However you determine your budget amount, you won’t regret making the decision.

Here’s why.

The hidden advantage

Pool enclosures provide you with many advantages and we’ll hit on every one of them. However, we’ll start with the one that most people don’t think to consider. That’s free airflow. Glass or polycarbonate enclosures block the natural flow of air. That traps moisture inside the enclosure and promotes mold and mildew growth—which eventually affects your health if not dealt with. Unfortunately, it causes a lot of people to experience feelings of claustrophobia too.

Feeling trapped or closed in can become overwhelming for some ruining their experience. It would be horrible to discover one of your family members had that issue after the fact, wouldn’t it?

Mesh enclosures allow air to circulate naturally and if you install a ceiling fan in the area, all the better! Moisture doesn’t have a chance to accumulate making it difficult for mold to get a foothold.

The privacy factor

The number one reason that homeowners give for installing a pool enclosure is for the sense of privacy they provide. Oddly, just walking through the doorway of a glass enclosure even has that effect to some degree. Of course, you can install tinted glass, but the cost goes up marginally.

Mesh screen pool enclosures have the same effect at a fraction of the cost. And, if you have the option of choosing your screen color, of course, a darker color provides an even greater effect. Some companies—ahem—like ours, for instance, give you the option of customizing your screens.

You can use digital imagery from your own library or choose a cataloged image to have produced on your screens.

The results are pretty spectacular. It seems as if you’ve stepped into your favorite place in the world every time you walk in the door. Talk about increasing your relaxation level! Once you’ve added all your finishing touches, your family may never want to go indoors again!

The debris disappears

It’s not the greatest feeling to look outside after a storm has passed through and realize you completely forgot to cover the pool.

Once you’ve enclosed the area, pool duty drops off substantially!

All those leaves, branches, and whatever else the wind picks up stay outside in the yard. It would be easier to have the kids pick up the yard than it is to take them up on the offer to skim for you, right? Now and then that could result in a bigger mess by the time they finish climbing in and out.

Just sayin’

The shade factor

Mesh screen enclosures don’t block ultraviolet (UV) rays 100%, but they do to a degree—and around here that’s saying something. The summer sun is blistering—literally! Forgetting to reapply sunscreen can be bad news. The kids won’t have to come out of the pool as often so you can slather on the lotion again. They’re going to love that!

By the way, most companies provide screens that have added UV protection built in. It helps lengthen the life of your enclosure. And, if you’ve chosen to customize your screens, the dyes used for your image have been reinforced against fading too.

The bugs can’t bite

Mesh screen pool enclosures block all manner of bugs from making their way into the pool area.

Imagine all the night swims in your future sans mosquitoes! You can picnic poolside without swarms of flies settling over your food. And, you won’t be carrying on any more conversations while simultaneously slapping at your face and arms!

The safety element

When the pool area is off-limits, all you have to do is lock the door and you won’t have to worry about kids and pets being drawn to the pool. Water just has that effect on some of us—kids especially!

The benefits outweigh the cost

It’s pretty easy to see that installing a pool enclosure is going to increase your comfort level and that means a lot! Getting rid of bugs and mosquitoes is a huge plus and less cleaning runs a really close second.

Moreover, once your enclosure is up, odds are it’s going to immediately become the favorite spot in the house. Your family will begin enjoying the added benefits immediately and the kids may never want to come inside. Don’t worry. You’ll get used to the pruney look.

Friends and family will look forward to gathering together for many years to come. Keep the cell phone handy, you’re going to be catching lots of moments that you’ll want to remember forever. But, hey, even if you don’t catch the pic, rest assured the memories will play in your mind on demand.
