Enclose Your Lanai and Enhance Holiday Gatherings

October 5, 2023 by Philip Kessler

It’s only October, but we all know that the holiday season will be upon us in seemingly no time at all. Our fast-paced lives can keep us from spending quality time with friends and family throughout the year. We tend to look forward to the upcoming season to reconnect with those we hold dear. Are you hosting any holiday gatherings this year?

If so, enclosing your patio or lanai will allow you to create a very merry outdoor space to celebrate in. Adding that degree of privacy raises the comfort level of guests whether they realize it or not! It allows for an even better time had by all. Whether you’re decorating the space for holiday gatherings or just for the fam to enjoy, it may become the favorite hangout for the entire season!

Enjoy year-round benefits

After the new year sets in, your new space won’t be any less popular! Since we experience such wonderful winters here, your outdoor enclosure is sure to be in use on the regular. Many homeowners come to think of their screen enclosures as being an extension of their home. And, they’re right!

A well-built structure actually adds to your property value. How much depends on factors such as size and materials used, of course.

Let’s take a look at the benefits you and your family will enjoy all year long.

Create a no-fly zone

You can store away the fly swatters and citronella. Mesh screen enclosures are so finely woven that bugs aren’t getting through them. That includes mosquitoes and even those annoying noseeums! Can you imagine spending time outdoors… at night even… and not being bombarded by insects of one type or another? Mesh screen enclosures make it a reality.

Creepy crawlies can’t get you

It’s no fun discovering some type of wildlife—and we have lots to choose from—has wandered into your yard and taken a liking to your space. Your new screen enclosure keeps all those unwanted guests out of your outdoor living area.

You won’t ever be startled by a sunning snake, agitated alligator, or some type of furry forager being so close to the house again. A firm boundary will be set in place from the day installation is completed.

A spot of shade

Mesh screen enclosures aren’t going to provide total shade, but around here, we’ll take all we can get. That is especially true throughout the summer! We’ve all scrambled to beat someone to that sliver of shade. Are we right?

When you enclose your space, you’ll be blocking a degree of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays. Not only will your body thank you, but your stuff won’t suffer sun fade as quickly as it does when fully exposed to the piercing Florida sunshine on the daily.

Protection against mold and mildew

The high humidity levels here provide a prime environment for mold and mildew to thrive. Moreover, once it gets started, it spreads. Mold can adversely affect your family’s health and prolonged exposure causes symptoms to grow worse over time.

Symptoms of mold exposure can include:

  • Nasal and sinus congestion
  • Eye irritation
  • Wheezing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Cough
  • Irritated throat
  • Skin rashes
  • Headache

Pets can be negatively affected by mold too. Like humans, symptoms worsen with prolonged exposure.

Small patches of mold can easily be taken care of using a solution of vinegar and water. Household bleach is also a remedy. However, if you discover a large area of mold growing somewhere in your home, we suggest contacting a professional.

Unlike glass or other solid surface enclosures, mesh screen enclosures guard against mold and mildew taking hold. The screens allow air to flow freely throughout the structure. Solid surface structures create “dead air” zones. Couple that with high humidity or damp conditions due to the rainy season in general and mold could have a heyday with your family’s health.

Dirt and debris free

It’s not so much fun to head out with coffee in hand to find you have to clean up after the storm that blew through in the night before you can take a seat. Once your new enclosure is installed, that is going to become a thing of the past! Go ahead and grab that bagel with your other hand on your way out. You won’t need to put either aside to pick up the broom instead.

Safe and serene

If you have young children, a screen enclosure provides a safe space for them to play out in the fresh air while providing a boundary they can’t cross. You won’t have to worry about losing track of them while you thumb through your favorite magazine or read your novel for a bit. Or if you accidentally left the snacks on the counter, you can run in and get them without coming out again to find no child in sight.

Happy holidays and then some

Installing a mesh screen enclosure before the holiday gatherings begin will allow you to create a really festive space for making memories this year. Then, you and yours will keep making them all year long. You’ll enjoy a bug and critter free environment and won’t all be bickering over that sliver of shade.

Screen enclosures create a healthier environment over using a solid material to build your structure. They create dead air space if you don’t install a filtration system—that gets pricey in a hurry. Lastly, if you have young children, they have a safe space to play outdoors yet be confined nearby.

All things considered, deciding to enclose your lanai or patio is like a gift that keeps on giving. And, you can rest assured that you, your family, and your friends will be enjoying it for years to come.
