Privacy Problem? Enclosing Your Lanai Solves It

January 12, 2024 by Philip Kessler

Neighbors are great, but sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of privacy. Say, you want to gather with family and friends for a small birthday celebration, without every one of them knowing what’s going on in your backyard. Days like that can be, especially, tough if there are kids close by looking longingly at the birthday cake and balloons. Ever been there?

If you install a mesh screen enclosure around the lanai—or any outdoor living area—your family will instantly have a place that’s shielded from neighborhood happenings. Did you know that when homeowners are asked why they chose to enclose an area of their yard, privacy is the number one answer? Some have even admitted that had they realized what an incredible difference it makes, they’d have installed their enclosures sooner!

About those bugs

It’s safe to say that bugs love the subtropical climate here as much as we do. They don’t respect boundaries very well, though, do they? You know what we mean if they’ve ever driven you inside after enduring their continuous onslaught until you’ve nearly slapped yourself silly.

Once your new enclosure goes up, you won’t have to deal with the bugs any longer. None. Even the noseeums can’t get through the finely woven mesh screen. We use Phifer screen, a leader in the insect screen industry, to build our enclosures. Wait until you experience living a bug-free life in real time! You may find yourself utilizing the space far more often than you had in the past.

Free Air Flow

When you install a mesh screen enclosure, you don’t have to worry about ventilation. You’ll spend many an evening enjoying the night air.

Another benefit of free airflow is that because of the high humidity and the amount of rain we receive, bugs aren’t the only nuisance that tends to thrive in the Florida climate. Mold and mildew can be big problems too.

Once the fungi find a damp, dark spot to get started, they spread. Left unchecked, the number of mold spores being released into the air keeps increasing. As it does, the immediate environment becomes unhealthy for humans and pets alike. When air flows throughout your enclosure, every nook and cranny keeps dry eliminating the environment that allows mold and mildew to get started.

Clean less

The new enclosure keeps your lanai cleaner too because when the wind blows, dirt and debris don’t get any farther than your screens! Imagine how nice it will be to head outdoors after a storm passes by and not have to tidy up before sitting down.

Elemental Protection

Our mesh screen enclosures aren’t going to completely block your furniture and decor from exposure to the elements, but a little bit can go a long way around here. Your things won’t get soaked as often and the sun won’t fade them as quickly as in the past. No more arming yourself with a thick towel after the rain stops so you can sit without soaking your seat.

And, while you aren’t 100% shaded, you may find it’s just the right ratio for those of us who love to be out in that bright, beautiful Florida sunshine.

Sets perimeters

It is not a happy experience when you discover a snake has curled up under the table or a throw pillow. Your enclosure marks clear boundaries. Florida wildlife remains free to roam —but in its rightful domain—which is farther away from your house.

You’ll have clear boundaries set for young children and pets too. It’s never a good feeling when you look up to find that either of them is no longer right next to you. Moreover, once they’re on the move, it can take a minute to round them up again. Pets more so than the kids on that one. Are we right?

Here’s a novel thought! Having an enclosed outdoor area allows for taking in some fresh air and getting a little sunshine while safely keeping everyone together in one spot. The kids can sit and play and you could take some time to sit and read your book a little while. No more popping up and down out of your seat to herd the littles back to the lanai.

Sounds good, doesn’t it?

The value factor

Enclosing your lanai, or any outdoor living space, increases your property’s value. How much, of course, depends on varying factors such as size, materials used, and quality of workmanship.

Most homeowners don’t install an enclosure as an incentive to home buyers—but, hey! We see how that could be a brilliant idea if your home were located in a flooded market area. The actual amount of value that you gain may be immeasurable if creating an outdoor living space is what causes your home to sell quickly.

Of course, the benefits mentioned in this article are valuable assets that you won’t regret adding to your family’s comfort level as well. You and your family will experience an increased sense of privacy no matter what’s going on in the neighborhood. Battling bugs becomes a thing of the past and no more unwanted surprises if one type of creature or another finds its way into your yard. Mesh screen enclosures provide a little shade, your stuff lasts longer, and fresh air circulates freely.

Even more importantly, though, your screened-in living space is likely to quickly become your family’s favorite spot, That special place in your home where you all want to gather to do life. Moreover, friends are going to love hanging out in your new space, too.

In light of constantly rising prices, the phrase “eating out” may take on a whole new meaning—and, you won’t be constantly shooing away flies as you dine. Go ahead and turn on all the lights so you can move game night outdoors too. Leave the mosquito repellant in the cabinet, though, because you aren’t going to need it.

No matter how you choose to spend your time in your new space or who you choose to spend it with, you’ll be storing up memories to carry with you for the rest of your life.
